Authur Pass

Arthur's Pass National Park on the South Island has magnificent mountain scenery, which you can experience on several short walks or full-day hikes. But most people just pass through the park on their way between the two coasts. The views are impressive whether you're traveling by car on Highway 73 or on the Trans-Alpine Express train between Christchurch and Greymouth.
Be aware that Arthur's Pass itself is sometimes closed to cars because of bad winter weather—on my last trip it was not closed but the car is broke down during the colder winter and miss some of the area's best scenery. It was happen when on my way to ski-field with well prepared and excited feel. The surrounding is cover by a piece of white mountain scenery with sheep and cows. The views are amaging just like a live wallpaper in front of me. I believe sure there is always something bad to you when you had the best. So, the temparature of my car is getting higher just in a sudden. Too bad! And my car is broken down for the 2nd time in my travelling. There was nobody pass by, no houses nearby, no network coverage and no public phone nearby. And, it started to snow when I need some help. Snowing ~~ It was my first time to see the snowing day. A kind of unforgetable romantic sad memory......

The scenery along the driving route from Greymouth to Authur Pass NP (during my car in towing service).

The sheep farm in winter time.

The only sheep look at the camera : cheers ~

He hugs the snow kiwi.

Arthur’s Pass National Park is in the heart of the Southern Alps/Kā Tiritiri o te Moana. Its high mountains with large scree slopes, steep gorges and wide braided rivers, straddles the main divide – the ‘back bone’ of the South Island – between Canterbury and the West Coast. The visitors center at Arthur's Pass Village has a small museum, which offers weather and trail information. Among the shorter walks, both the Devil's Punchbowl Falls and Bridal Veil tracks lead to spectacular waterfalls. Arthur's Pass Village is 95 mi/155 km northwest of Christchurch by road.
